"One of the worst, most damaging, most incredibly false stereotypes of people on the autism spectrum is that they lack empathy…For example, I don’t enjoy watching comedies, because I empathize too much with the characters. I can’t separate myself from them, gain emotional distance. So much comedy is based on uncomfortable or embarrassing things happening to a character and the audience being expected to laugh at it. I can’t; I feel as if I were the person in that predicament. It’s not funny to me, because I empathize too much with the characters."
